Collaborative Consumption

"Reduce, reuse, recycle is the mantra of sustainability " and that is where collaborative consumption comes in. Using the internet to exchange goods and services; sharing, renting and swapping rather than buying from conventional retailers".   So will collaborative consumption rise to make a real contribution to sustainability? The panel at the Festival of Sydney 2014 (include the founders of Air BnB and The Garage Sale Trail amongst others) looks at the role of collaborative consumption in society today and it's potential disruption to the traditional market economy in this talk broadcast on 576 Radio National's Big Ideas.Lauren Anderson from the Collaborative Lab in Sydney hosts the discussion and refers to a book "What's Mine is Yours - the rise of collaborative consumption"  co-authored by Rachel Botsman which describes CC as the reinvention of ancient market behaviours (such as bartering, trading and swapping) through digital technology which enables us to do these things on a scale previously impossible.
